Aaron Peterson is a freelance photographer and writer based near Marquette, Michigan on the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. He offers editorial, commercial and stock photography services as well as a growing line of fine art prints, posters and bookmarks. The Upper Peninsula (U.P.) is a land carved by the forces of the Great Lakes and warmed by the spirit of its resilient and hardy people, affectionately known as "Yoopers." Peterson holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a double major in Chinese Language and Literature and East Asian Studies. It's a long story. The artist is self-taught, having learned to harness the power of the photographic image and hitch it to the written word while cultivating the pages of newspapers around the Midwest. Peterson has been shooting 100 percent digital since 2004. Images created prior to then were most likely shot on Fuji Velvia or Kodak E100VS slide film. He currently shoots with the 12.2 megapixel Nikon D2X as well as the D70 for backup or light and fast assignments in the backcountry. Computer tools include Apple computers, Nikon scanners and Epson printers. Interests include upland bird hunting, flyfishing, sea kayaking, backpacking and skiing. Today Peterson, his wife Kristen and their two border collies make their home on a 40-acre farmstead near the town of Chatham, Mich. in the central Upper Peninsula, a short drive from Marquette and Lake Superior.
